Why do I have to pay to volunteer?
We are a humanitarian relief agency. The fees you pay will cover your meals, accommodation, and travel to and from the airport. Additionally, the fees you pay are also used for donations to community projects, volunteer coordination, program development, administration, local staff expenses, community team recruitment, logistical support, project consultants, office space, financial audits, marketing material, and website presence. What if I want to stay longer than one week?
Sometimes people are so enthusiastic about the area they are in, they decide they want to stay longer. You are certainly welcome to make personal arrangements to stay as long as you wish. The Crisis Recovery International Coordinator who stays with the group will be leaving at the end of the week for other locations. You will be traveling on your own and making your own arrangements.

What if I want to leave sooner or later than the date that is arranged?
Again, you will make your own arrangements and are free to leave whenever you would like. Our transportation is arranged according to the dates for which you sign up.

What if I arrive at the airport sooner than the pick up date?
Sometimes people decide they want to do some sightseeing before they start working and come a few days early. Our transportation is arranged so that we can meet everyone on arrival. If you decide to arrive earlier than the date in the information, you can still meet us at the airport on the stated day. Let us know that is what you will be doing so that we have adequate transportation for everyone.

Is it safe?
We have personally checked out the locations in which we work. We make every effort to provide a safe environment. In international locations there may be things that arise that were not anticipated. Our Crisis Recovery International Coordinator will be with you all week to insure that things run smoothly. What are the accommodations like?
We stay in local accommodations so that you get to experience the culture. We also stay in local accommodations because, as a humanitarian organization, it is our goal to put money back into the local economy. The rooms will be safe, comfortable, shared lodging. Our Crisis Recovery International Coordinator will also be staying at the lodging with you.

What will we have to eat?
Our food will be prepared locally. You will get to experience eating the exotic dishes that are eaten in that location. In most cases, vegetarian dishes are available. There will always be enough food for everyone to have plenty to eat.

How do I get airplane tickets?
You can go online to purchase tickets. We recommend airline consolidators as they usually have the lowest prices. Do an online search for ?airline consolidator? to find the companies. Another suggestion is that you talk to a travel agent in your area that can help you make arrangements. We also suggest that you check into purchasing travel insurance.

What if I get sick or hurt?
You must have your own health insurance. Please carry your health insurance card, or a copy of your card, with you. We will make every effort to get you to a medical facility, but payment for any medical services are your responsibility. Do I need vaccinations?
Please go to http://www.cdc.gov/ and search the travel section to find out what vaccinations and precautions are suggested for the area you are going to work in. Vaccinations are highly recommended and are your responsibility.

What work will I be doing?
We partner with local NGOs to be able to provide a full range of volunteer opportunities. Each work location has different requirements. The work you do will be a combination of your interests and the local needs. We make every effort to accommodate your interests. Be sure to let us know if you have a particular activity in mind.

What if I come with friends? Is the fee cheaper?
We encourage you to come with friends. It is wonderful to be able to share this experience with people you know. You will also make new friends with your co-workers and with the local people. Either way, you will have an unforgettable experience. Unfortunately, the fee will still remain the same no matter how many of you come together. Remember, we are a humanitarian relief organization and much of the money is used to fund projects in the communities we serve.

How can I raise enough money to go to help?
There are many ways you can raise money to go to international locations. Go to http://www.grassrootsfundraising.org/ for some ideas. Other ideas are to raise money through your religious organization or trade jobs for funds with family and friends.
