Crisis Recovery International Volunteers is a nonprofit agency dedicated to assisting survivors of traumatic events by providing humanitarian assistance.

On December 26, 2005, the tsunami devastated Iranga and her family. This family lost their home and their business. Iranga's little brother and her grandfather died in the tsunami. They had to live with other family members after the tsunami and have had difficulty getting their business back. Because the family needed everyone to help earn money, 14 year old Iranga had to quit school to go to work. She has had trouble finding work and needs English and computer skills. Help her learn English and teach her computer. Here is a letter from Iranga. You can help Iranga and many others like her....

Recently we faced an interview. But they said that your English &computer knowledge was awful. In Sri Lanka too English & computer literacy is a must. Most of the job opportunities are missed as we are not talented enough. Most of the computer courses are limited to 45 hours as 3 hour a day and 1-2 days for a week. Only 2 or 3 hours are allowed to use the computer labs & it is awfully inadigute to practice well. Most of people have computers their own but they wouldn't let us to use them & they make excuse to avoid us by making use them; saying about electricity billls, that's how we have to face the situation. In another interview, I lost as I was unable to balance the accounts using the computer. Though I have a good kowledge in accounting & can well manage manually, I am unable to use the computer accounting. I missed another chance at an Italian office, as they refused me of my typing speed e-mail &internet. both computer &computer courses are very expensive....I have sent hundreds of applications for various job opportunities, yet I haven't fixed for any one.

Volunteers are still needed to help with recovery. There is a need for people to volunteer to help in orphanages and help with rebuilding which will be ongoing for many years. There is a very urgent need for tourist dollars to go back into the economy in this country that depends heavily on tourism.

This beautiful hotel is owned by a local family you will enjoy getting to know when you stay here. The hotel offers clean comfortable rooms and excellent food. It is a short tuk tuk ride to the clear warm waters of the Indian Ocean. You will be able to swim, scuba dive, explore, or relax and enjoy the beauty of the area.
